The White House has criticized actor Mark Hamill after an artificial intelligence generated image of President Donald Trump depicted in a shallow grave was shared on one of Hamill's verified social media accounts. The image showed Trump lying with his eyes closed beside a gravestone reading 'Donald J. Trump 1946-2024' and included the words 'If Only.'
In the accompanying post, Hamill wrote that Trump should live long enough to see a political defeat in upcoming midterm elections and face accountability for what he described as corruption and crimes. The White House responded by calling Hamill 'one sick individual' and argued that such rhetoric contributes to political violence.
Hamill later deleted the image and clarified that he was not wishing for Trump's death, stating he meant the opposite and apologizing to those who found the image inappropriate. The controversy comes amid heightened security concerns following multiple recent attempts on Trump's life, including a shooting at a rally and other alleged assassination plots.
