'Cynical' BBC Under Fire for 'Allowing the Propaganda To Spread' After Anti-Israel Film It Wouldn't Air Wins Prestigious Award: BBC Gave Doc to Rival Despite Bias Concerns

The British Broadcasting Corporation is facing criticism after a documentary it commissioned but declined to air won a British Academy Film Award. The film, Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, was shelved by the broadcaster over concerns about impartiality, yet the rights were returned to the filmmakers, who then aired it on Channel 4 and distributed it internationally through the digital outlet Zeteo. The award prompted renewed scrutiny from critics who accuse the broadcaster of enabling what they describe as anti Israel propaganda while avoiding direct responsibility.

The documentary alleges that Israel deliberately targeted hospitals and medical personnel during its war against Hamas, claims that detractors say ignore evidence that Hamas used medical facilities for military purposes. Media watchdog group the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis argued that the film erased Hamas from its narrative and failed to meet basic journalistic standards. Israel also publicly criticized the award, mocking the decision on social media.

During their acceptance speeches, the filmmakers accused the British Broadcasting Corporation of censoring the project, remarks that were later edited before broadcast. The controversy follows earlier disputes involving the broadcaster, including another Gaza documentary that was pulled after revelations about undisclosed family ties to Hamas. Critics say the latest episode reflects ongoing concerns about bias and editorial judgment within Britain’s public broadcaster and wider media establishment.
