The remains of United States servicewoman Specialist Mariyah Collington, 19, were recovered on May 12 in Morocco’s Cap Draa area, according to Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and United States Africa Command. Her body was found at a rocky cliff site following intensive search operations conducted in coordination with United States forces.
Collington had been missing since May 2 while participating in the African Lion joint military exercises near the city of Tan Tan in southern Morocco. Earlier this week, the remains of another missing soldier, First Lieutenant Kendrick Lamont Key Junior, were recovered from the Atlantic Ocean.
According to reporting by The Associated Press, both soldiers fell from a cliff during off-duty time while on a recreational hike. After their disappearances, coordinated search and rescue efforts involving ground, air, and maritime teams were launched by United States, Moroccan, and partner forces.
