Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran will not 'surrender' as it enters diplomatic dialogue with the United States, emphasizing that negotiations will be conducted with dignity and without retreating from what he described as the nation's legal rights. In a social media post, he stressed that dialogue does not mean capitulation and that Iran would preserve its authority throughout the talks.
His remarks came after United States President Donald Trump said he had paused a planned military strike on Iran following a new peace proposal from Tehran. Trump stated there was a 'very good chance' of reaching an agreement to limit Iran's nuclear program but warned that the military was prepared to launch a large scale assault if an acceptable deal was not achieved.
Trump also said that regional leaders had urged him to delay military action, expressing confidence that a deal acceptable to the United States and the broader Middle East could be reached. He added that Washington's primary objective is to ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon, while negotiations continue amid heightened tensions.
