The United States Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on several individuals linked to a Gaza-bound flotilla and organizations it says are connected to Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Those designated include Saif Abukeshek, a steering committee member of the Global Sumud Flotilla, along with Hisham Abu Mahfuz, Mohammed Khatib, and Jaldia Abubakra.
According to the Treasury Department, Abukeshek and Abu Mahfuz were sanctioned for their association with the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, which was previously designated for allegedly serving as a front for Hamas. Abukeshek recently took part in a flotilla that was intercepted by the Israeli navy and was later detained and deported following questioning about his alleged ties.
Khatib and Abubakra were designated for their roles in Samidoun, a network labeled a terrorist front by authorities in the United States and Canada. The Treasury also cited Abubakra's involvement in helping establish a partner organization in 2021 that is linked to sanctioned figures. Officials said the measures are part of broader efforts to disrupt financial support networks tied to Hamas.
