A new Hebrew translation of the Epic of Gilgamesh has been published by Carmelit Publishing House, prepared by Yoram Cohen of Tel Aviv University and Nathan Wasserman of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The release has renewed interest in the ancient Mesopotamian epic and its connections to biblical literature.

Scholars highlight striking parallels between Gilgamesh and stories found in the Bible, including shared themes such as a great flood, the role of serpents, and the human search for wisdom and immortality. These similarities offer insight into the cultural and literary exchanges that shaped the ancient Near East.

The new translation invites modern readers to reconsider the relationship between one of the world’s earliest epics and the biblical tradition, shedding light on how foundational narratives may have influenced one another across civilizations.
