'I will kill you Jews': Man jailed for 5 years in UK over antisemitic threats near London synagogue

A London court has sentenced 36-year-old Tavius Jean-Charles to five years in prison after he admitted to a series of antisemitic hate crimes targeting Jewish residents in north London. He pleaded guilty to seven racially aggravated public order offences and one count of racially aggravated criminal damage.

Between October 2025 and March 2026, Jean-Charles targeted six victims in Stamford Hill, an area with a large Orthodox Jewish population. In one of the most serious incidents, he shouted threats near the Belz Synagogue, telling a synagogue manager and his son, 'I will kill not just you, but all Jews.' He also threatened another resident from his car and smashed a vehicle window with a stone.

After initially being arrested and released, he was reported again for allegedly suggesting over the phone that Jewish schools should be blown up. Prosecutors described the evidence as overwhelming, and he changed his plea to guilty less than a month after first denying the charges.

The sentencing comes amid growing concern over rising antisemitic incidents across the United Kingdom. Authorities have pledged faster action against hate crimes, while police said such offences have no place in the community and confirmed that related investigations are ongoing.
