British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss regional stability following a ceasefire agreement between the United States, Israel and Iran. The leaders examined the impact of the recent conflict on maritime security, energy supplies and the global economy.
Both sides condemned Iranian attacks targeting civilians and infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and the wider region, describing them as violations of sovereignty, international law and the United Nations Charter. Starmer reaffirmed the United Kingdom's solidarity with the Emirates and its support for the country's security and sovereignty.
While welcoming the two week ceasefire that has brought relative calm and eased energy prices, Starmer said further efforts were needed to secure stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments. Meanwhile, violence has continued in Lebanon, which was not included in the agreement, prompting calls from the United Kingdom government for the ceasefire to be extended amid rising casualties and humanitarian concerns.
