Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled the traditional mass celebration at Mount Meron following renewed fire from Lebanon and updated security assessments. The decision was made after a late-night discussion by the narrow security Cabinet.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the annual event honoring Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, scheduled for May 5, will not take place in its usual large-scale format. Instead, it will be marked in a symbolic manner due to the Home Front Command's updated defense policy taking effect on April 26, 2026.
The move reflects heightened security concerns as tensions along the northern border continue to influence national safety measures.
