Hezbollah fired two rockets from Lebanon toward central Israel early Friday, setting off air raid sirens across the region, including in Ashdod and nearby communities. The projectiles were intercepted, and no injuries were reported. Emergency services said they received no reports of casualties, and authorities later informed residents they could leave protected areas.
The attack followed warnings that rocket fire, previously focused on northern Israel, could expand deeper into the country. Late Thursday, Hezbollah also launched a barrage toward Haifa and surrounding areas, with explosions heard as far as the Sharon region, though no injuries were reported.
In response, the Israel Defense Forces said it carried out airstrikes in Lebanon targeting about 10 rocket launchers used against northern Israel. The military said efforts to locate and destroy additional launchers were ongoing amid continued cross-border exchanges that have persisted since the start of the war with Iran last month, despite a recently announced ceasefire involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
