Iran said no direct meeting is planned with the United States in Pakistan, despite comments from Washington suggesting that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would engage with Iranian officials in Islamabad. Iranian officials stated that any messages from Tehran would be delivered through Pakistani counterparts rather than in face to face talks with the American delegation.
The differing accounts emerged as diplomatic efforts continue to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war, with Pakistan acting as mediator. Earlier talks in Islamabad this month were led by Vice President JD Vance for the United States and parliament speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf for Iran. Ghalibaf did not accompany Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on this latest visit, adding to uncertainty over the format and scope of the discussions.
