Fuel protests have caused widespread disruption across Ireland, with more than a third of the country’s 1,500 service stations running out of fuel. Truck and tractor drivers have staged a fifth consecutive day of blockades at the nation’s only fuel refinery and several depots, leading to closures of major highways in and around Dublin and other key routes.
Police have placed all officers on notice for potential deployment, and the military is on standby to assist in removing vehicles if necessary. The government has resumed talks in an effort to resolve the crisis, warning that continued disruption could jeopardize national fuel supplies during an already strained global market.
The protests, driven by anger over soaring fuel prices, have grown through social media coordination. Demonstrators including truckers, farmers, and public transport operators are demanding price caps or tax reductions. Although the government recently introduced temporary tax cuts and expanded support measures, rising international oil prices linked to conflict in the Middle East have offset those efforts.
