Residents of south Tel Aviv say they have endured years of violence and intimidation by youth gangs, describing a reality in which fear has become part of daily life. One resident said that when violence occurs in their neighborhood it receives little attention, but when it spreads to northern parts of the city, it suddenly becomes a wider public concern.
Police officials acknowledged the ongoing problem and said targeted operations are being carried out against violent youths in the area. According to a senior investigations officer for the district, the neighborhood is regularly reinforced with uniformed and undercover officers, border patrol forces and special units working in coordination with the municipality.
Despite these efforts, residents say the situation continues to disrupt their lives, with some afraid to leave their homes as authorities attempt to contain the unrest and restore security to the community.
