The United States military has released footage showing one of its Navy guided missile destroyers firing on an Iranian cargo ship that attempted to breach a blockade around Iranian ports. The vessel, identified as M V Touska, was intercepted in the north Arabian Sea while traveling toward Bandar Abbas.
According to United States Central Command, the destroyer issued multiple warnings over a six hour period, informing the Iranian flagged ship that it was violating the blockade. After the crew failed to comply, the destroyer ordered the evacuation of the ship’s engine room before firing several rounds into it, disabling the vessel’s propulsion.
Marines from the Thirty First Marine Expeditionary Unit later boarded the ship, which remains in United States custody. Central Command said its forces acted in a deliberate, professional, and proportional manner to ensure compliance.
