Police probe whether Iran is paying 'thugs' for synagogue attacks

Counter terrorism police are investigating whether Iran is paying criminal proxies to carry out arson attacks on Jewish sites in London, following a firebombing at Kenton United Synagogue. Senior officers said several recent incidents targeting Israeli and Jewish linked premises have been claimed online by a group calling itself Ashab al Yamin, which has also claimed attacks elsewhere in Europe.

Police said they are examining whether the Iranian regime is using so called violence as a service tactics, recruiting individuals with no ideological allegiance to carry out attacks for money. The latest assault caused limited damage after a window was smashed and a firebomb thrown into the synagogue, and additional patrols have been deployed across affected areas.

The attack follows recent arson attempts on other synagogues, the torching of Jewish community ambulances, and an attempted strike on an anti Iranian media organisation. Political and faith leaders have condemned the incidents, describing them as part of a growing wave of anti Jewish hatred and calling for stronger action to protect the Jewish community.
