United States Central Command has released footage showing United States Marines seizing the Iranian flagged vessel Touska in the Arabian Sea as part of a blockade of Iranian ports.
According to the command, Marines departed the amphibious assault ship Tripoli by helicopter and boarded the commercial vessel after rappelling onto its deck. The operation followed a six hour standoff during which the guided missile destroyer Spruance disabled the ship’s propulsion when it failed to comply with repeated warnings.
The boarding took place on April 20 and was described as a response to the vessel’s refusal to heed instructions from United States forces operating in the region.
