US re-detains immigrant family of suspect in deadly antisemitic attack, their lawyer says

United States immigration agents have re-detained the family of an Egyptian man accused of carrying out a deadly antisemitic attack in Colorado, according to their lawyer. The family had been released days earlier after nearly ten months in custody. Their attorney said deportation was described as imminent before a federal judge intervened.

Later the same day, a federal judge ordered a temporary halt to the family's removal, allowing them to remain in the country while they continue their legal challenge. Lawyers for the family said they are working to secure their return home following the renewed detention.

Hayam El Gamal and her five children had been freed from a family detention center in Texas after a court ruled they did not pose a danger or flight risk. Her former husband, Mohammed Sabry Soliman, faces federal charges for allegedly attacking a protest in support of Israeli hostages with Molotov cocktails and an improvised flamethrower, wounding fifteen people and killing one. Authorities had argued the family might have known about his plans, but both Soliman and El Gamal have said he acted alone.
