Senior Iranian officials are reportedly moving to remove Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, accusing him of aligning too closely with the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in negotiations with the United States. According to an opposition-aligned outlet, President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf believe Araghchi has sidelined them and acted more as an aide to the military leadership than as a representative of the government.
The report says the president has told associates he will dismiss Araghchi if the situation continues. The dispute comes amid deep divisions within Iran’s leadership over strategy in talks with the United States, particularly over whether Tehran’s nuclear program should be included in negotiations aimed at ending the war and solidifying a ceasefire.
