Netanyahu to convene security cabinet tomorrow as tensions simmer with Iran; report: return to Gaza fighting to also be discussed

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will convene his security cabinet amid rising tensions with Iran and uncertainty over ceasefire efforts in Gaza. The meeting follows remarks by United States President Donald Trump expressing dissatisfaction with a new ceasefire proposal from Tehran and warning of possible military action if no agreement is reached. An Iranian official has reportedly cautioned that renewed conflict with the United States is 'likely.'

Cabinet ministers are also expected to discuss the possibility of resuming fighting in Gaza, as frustration grows over stalled negotiations to disarm Hamas and advance a United States-led peace initiative. Israeli officials say Hamas has not complied with disarmament understandings and that discussions with mediators are ongoing.

Hamas recently submitted amendments to a fifteen-point roadmap for the second phase of the Gaza peace plan during talks in Cairo. The group is demanding a full ceasefire and complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, rejecting a phased disarmament proposal and linking the issue of weapons to broader political rights and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state. The mediator overseeing the proposal departed Cairo after receiving Hamas's response.
