Report: Government pushing new civil service head to approve PM's embattled aide as London envoy

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has reportedly sought an urgent meeting with incoming Civil Service Commissioner Doron Cohen to secure approval for the appointment of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's former chief of staff, Tzachi Braverman, as Israel's next ambassador to the United Kingdom. Cohen is set to begin his tenure tomorrow.

Braverman was appointed to the London post in September but is currently under investigation for allegedly interfering in a probe involving another Netanyahu aide, Eli Feldstein, over the suspected leak of a classified document to a German newspaper. The attorney general is expected to decide in the coming weeks whether to file an indictment against him.

Although a judicial order previously barred Braverman from leaving the country, that restriction has been lifted. He remains suspended from public service and would be required to return to Israel if requested by police. Sa'ar's office has not responded to requests for comment.
