The Crown Prosecution Service will fast track hate crime prosecutions following a series of antisemitic attacks, including the stabbing of two Jewish men in Golders Green and several arson incidents in areas with large Jewish communities. The head of the service said prosecutors have been instructed to make charging decisions as soon as core evidence is available rather than waiting to build a perfect case, in order to reassure affected communities that swift action is being taken.

Police recorded 139,000 suspected hate crime incidents in the past year, though far fewer resulted in criminal charges. In the year to September 2025, 658 religious hate crime cases were prosecuted, with nearly four fifths ending in conviction. During the same period, 11,140 racial hate crime cases were brought, achieving a conviction rate of more than 85 percent.

Officials said hate crime has increased in recent years, with spikes often following high profile antisemitic incidents. Authorities are now separately recording antisemitic and anti Muslim offences to better track their impact. The prosecution service also cited victim withdrawal from the justice process, often due to delays, as a key reason why many reported cases do not reach court.
