Netanyahu said seeking to dissuade Haredi parties from backing September elections date

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly urging the ultra-Orthodox parties in his coalition not to push for early elections in September, warning that such a move could endanger the right-wing bloc's chances of securing a majority. A preliminary vote to dissolve parliament is scheduled for next week, after one faction within United Torah Judaism announced it would support early elections over the failure to pass a law granting blanket military exemptions to yeshiva students. Other ultra-Orthodox parties are said to favor early September dates, while Netanyahu prefers a later timeline to allow more time for campaigning amid ongoing security concerns involving Iran and the United States.

With elections required by late October, the government is advancing a five-year plan aimed at supporting the ultra-Orthodox community. The proposal includes allocating hundreds of millions of shekels for education, construction, dropout prevention programs designed to help students avoid enlistment in the Israel Defense Forces, professional training initiatives, and tourism efforts. The government reportedly hopes to approve the plan before any election takes place.

Recent polls indicate that neither Netanyahu’s coalition nor the opposition currently holds a clear path to the 61-seat majority needed to form a government in the 120-seat parliament. Meanwhile, a new alliance between Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid has reshaped the opposition landscape, though surveys suggest the political deadlock would persist even if additional parties merge.
