Spanish actor Javier Bardem said at the Cannes Film Festival that he is receiving more job offers than ever despite his outspoken criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza. He suggested that the 'narrative is changing' around the conflict, allowing more space for public figures to express support for Palestinians without facing the same level of professional backlash.
Bardem, who voiced support for a free Palestine during the Academy Awards ceremony in February, said he feels fortunate to be in a position where speaking out has not harmed his career. While other actors have claimed their work declined after making similar statements, Bardem said he has experienced the opposite and believes public awareness of the conflict has shifted.
He also stars in the new film 'The Beloved,' which premiered at Cannes. The film follows a celebrated director returning to Spain to work with his estranged daughter and explores themes tied to Spain’s former colonial presence in Western Sahara, a territory disputed by Morocco and pro-independence forces.
