Lebanon's health ministry says more than 3,000 people have been killed by Israeli strikes since the conflict with Hezbollah escalated in early March. The death toll reached 3,020 on Monday, underscoring the intensity of the fighting despite a fragile ceasefire.
Although Lebanon and Israel agreed to extend their truce by 45 days, violence has persisted. More than 400 deaths have been recorded since the ceasefire began on 17 April, with both sides accused of repeated violations.
The truce, brokered by the United States, permits Israel to conduct strikes it says are aimed at countering Hezbollah's military activities. Lebanon has criticized the continued attacks, saying they weaken efforts to ensure the state has sole control over weapons.
Israeli strikes have continued across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, while Hezbollah has claimed attacks on Israeli targets. Israel says 20 of its soldiers and four civilians have been killed since early March, and its forces remain in a strip of territory along the Lebanese border seized during the conflict.
