Nickolay Mladenov, overseeing the United States brokered ceasefire in Gaza, urged the United Nations Security Council to use every means at its disposal to press Hamas to disarm, warning that continued violence could unravel the fragile truce. He stressed that both Hamas and Israel must meet their obligations under the proposed roadmap, calling on Hamas to accept the plan and on Israel to uphold its commitments.

Mladenov described the situation as a stark choice between a deteriorating status quo and a new beginning for the two million Palestinians living in desperate conditions in Gaza. He emphasized that there is no third option and cautioned against delaying progress while people on the ground continue to suffer.

Reviewing the 15 points of the roadmap, he underlined that the Board of Peace is not intended to replace Palestinian governance in Gaza but to support a sustainable path toward stability and peace.
