A senior official from the United Arab Emirates says there is only a 50-50 chance that the United States and Iran will reach an agreement to ease tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments. Speaking at a forum in Prague, the presidential adviser urged Iran not to overestimate its leverage during fragile negotiations tied to a ceasefire in the Middle East.
He warned that any ceasefire must be lasting and not simply pause the conflict while setting the stage for future violence. The adviser stressed that the Strait of Hormuz, which carries about one fifth of global oil production, must return to normal operations as an international waterway.
The official also said concerns over Iran's nuclear program have grown significantly, describing it as the top security worry for his country. During a recent 40 day conflict, the United Arab Emirates faced roughly 3,300 drones and missiles, with a small percentage breaching its defenses, underscoring the heightened regional threat environment.
