Israeli Strikes Pummel Lebanon, Killing Medics Amid Fragile Truce

Dozens of Israeli airstrikes struck southern and eastern Lebanon late Friday and early Saturday, killing and injuring multiple people and placing renewed strain on a fragile truce between Israel and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. The attacks targeted towns and villages in the south, where large areas remain under Israeli occupation and tens of thousands of residents are displaced. New evacuation warnings were issued as strikes continued.

Lebanon's health ministry said six paramedics were killed in two separate strikes within twenty four hours, bringing the total number of medics killed in the conflict to more than 120. Israeli officials said the strikes targeted Hezbollah operatives and infrastructure and that they were reviewing reports of civilian harm. Medical facilities were also affected, with damage reported at Tibnin hospital and near Hiram Hospital in Tyre, where newborns had to be evacuated.

Despite a ceasefire reached in mid April as part of a broader regional arrangement involving Iran, near-daily exchanges of fire have persisted. Hezbollah said it launched rockets and drones at Israeli positions, while Israel reported striking an underground weapons facility in the Bekaa Valley. Since early March, more than 3,100 people have been killed in Lebanon as violence between the two sides continues, raising fears that the truce could collapse entirely.
