Trump's Pressure Had Little Effect on Iran's Terms for a Peace Deal

President Donald Trump sought to pressure Iran into accepting American terms for a peace deal through threats, limited military operations, and a naval blockade. Although he announced a cease-fire in April and demanded that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Tehran has largely maintained its position, continuing its control over the critical waterway despite American efforts.

The United States launched a naval cordon and briefly introduced an initiative to escort trapped ships to safety, but the effort was quickly suspended and failed to gain broader international backing. Rising energy prices and growing domestic opposition to the war weakened Washington’s leverage, while additional military threats were not carried out.

As negotiations continue, the emerging framework of a deal suggests that Iran has not significantly altered its stance on its nuclear program. Analysts say Iran’s leadership feels emboldened, believing it has withstood external pressure and can use its influence over global energy routes to strengthen its position in ongoing talks.
