Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her government has 'no issue' hosting Iran’s World Cup team in Tijuana after the squad moved its training base from the United States to Mexico. The team will still play its group stage matches in the United States, but will stay just south of San Diego during the tournament.

Sheinbaum said a representative from the International Federation of Association Football informed her that the United States did not want the Iranian team to remain overnight on its territory outside of match days. Mexico agreed to host the team following that request, and the move was formally confirmed when the governing body released its list of official base camps.

The relocation comes amid the ongoing war involving Iran, launched by the United States and Israel in late February. Heightened tensions and existing sanctions had complicated the team’s original plan to train in Arizona. The World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, will be co hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
