Educators in Bnei Brak have protested the operation of automatic food and drink vending machines that remain active throughout the night on central streets. During a city council meeting, education representatives argued that the machines allow businesses to bypass regulations requiring shops to close by 23:00, effectively enabling round-the-clock activity.
City administration member Ze'ev Lifshitz warned that the machines encourage unsupervised nighttime gatherings and cause environmental disturbances for nearby residents. He also expressed concern about what he described as serious spiritual harm to local youth. A rabbi at the meeting said the machines were 'ruining our children,' claiming they attract teenagers late at night.
Residents reported increased noise, sanitation problems, and feelings of insecurity after dark. Mayor Hanoch Zeibert backed stricter enforcement, and the council unanimously approved measures to ensure businesses comply with closing hours. Municipal inspectors have already begun shutting down shops operating the machines after 23:00.
