Dr. Sheila Nazarian, an Iranian-American plastic surgeon who fled Iran as a child, is sounding the alarm over what she describes as a worsening human rights crisis in Iran. She pointed to reports that four additional protesters, including a woman, are facing execution following recent demonstrations, and said more than 650 people have been executed in the past three months.
In a television interview, Nazarian sharply criticized actress Elizabeth Banks and other public figures for what she called selective outrage, accusing them of ignoring the treatment of women in Iran while speaking out on political issues in the United States. She framed the situation as a moral and humanitarian emergency, urging prominent voices to speak up for Iranian women facing imprisonment and execution.
Nazarian also described alleged abuses against female prisoners, including claims of sexual violence prior to execution. Drawing on her family’s escape from Iran decades ago, she said many Iranians remember life before the current regime and continue to live in fear. She emphasized that the crisis should be viewed not only through a geopolitical lens but as an urgent human rights issue affecting countless young people and women.
