Israel-Lebanon agree to 10-day truce: What it means for Iran-US peace talks

United States President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, marking a temporary halt to months of escalating hostilities. He invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House for direct talks, potentially the first such engagement between the two sides in more than three decades. The truce followed intensive phone diplomacy and is aimed at creating space for broader regional de-escalation.

Despite the breakthrough, tensions remain high elsewhere. Washington warned that it could resume air strikes and impose a naval blockade on Iran if Tehran refuses to agree to terms to end the wider regional conflict. The warning underscored the contrast between diplomatic progress involving Israel and Lebanon and mounting pressure on Iran.

Pakistan has sought to mediate between Washington and Tehran, with its military chief meeting Iranian officials in an effort to revive stalled talks. Although a recent two-week pause in hostilities between the United States and Iran reduced direct confrontation, disputes persist over Israeli operations against Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon. The fragile ceasefire now hinges on whether parallel diplomatic efforts can prevent renewed escalation across the region.
