Leaders of several opposition parties are reportedly planning to offer Benny Gantz the role of Israel's next president on the condition that he retire from political life. The proposal is expected to come from Yair Lapid, Avigdor Liberman, Gadi Eisenkot, and former prime minister Naftali Bennett.
As part of the move, the parties would unite under a single political framework, potentially led by either Eisenkot or Bennett. The initiative comes amid shifting polling numbers within the opposition bloc.
Recent surveys show Likud remaining the largest party with 25 seats, though it has lost three seats since the previous poll. Bennett's party holds steady at 19 seats, while Eisenkot's party has risen to 14 seats following the ceasefire. The Democrats, led by Yair Golan, have gained strength with 11 seats, while Lapid's party has declined to six seats.
