Oil companies, exporters, importers cheer Hormuz Strait opening

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz has brought relief to Indian oil companies, fertiliser importers and exporters after weeks of disruption caused by military conflict in West Asia. Forty one India bound vessels carrying crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas, liquefied natural gas and fertilisers had been waiting to pass through the crucial shipping route. Over a dozen of these ships are transporting fertilisers needed ahead of the upcoming sowing season.

Following the announcement, global oil prices fell sharply, easing concerns over energy supplies and transport costs. Lower crude prices are expected to reduce international freight rates, offering significant cost relief across sectors. Exporters who had paused shipments due to soaring freight charges are now hopeful that trade with West Asia and Europe will resume smoothly.

Several Indian exporters, including rice and agricultural produce traders, anticipate a revival in demand as shipping routes normalise. Officials said energy supplies were secured through alternative sources during the disruption, but the full resumption of traffic through the narrow channel is expected to stabilise supplies and reduce logistical pressures in the coming days.
