The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon has entered its second day, but tensions remain high along the border. In the town of Khiam, residents hoping to return to their homes have been blocked by the Lebanese army as explosions continue to be heard in nearby areas that are partly under Israeli control.

Despite the ongoing instability, Lebanon’s president, Joseph Aoun, said the country is entering a new phase that could turn the temporary ceasefire into a lasting peace settlement.
