The statement, posted publicly, suggested that the United States was directly ordering Israel to halt its operations against Hezbollah, prompting urgent requests for clarification from Israeli officials.

According to the report, Netanyahu was personally stunned and alarmed by the wording, which appeared to contradict the terms of the existing ceasefire. The agreement allows Israel to take military action in self-defense against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks. Israeli aides expressed confusion, noting that such direct language from an American president would be highly unusual.

A United States official later said the ceasefire bars offensive operations against Lebanese targets while preserving Israel’s right to self-defense. Trump nevertheless reiterated in an interview that he wanted Israel to stop striking Lebanon, saying he would not allow the continued bombing.
