Syrian authorities announced the arrest of five additional members of a cell allegedly linked to Hezbollah who were accused of plotting to assassinate a rabbi in the Bab Touma district of Damascus. The interior ministry said the suspects were involved in planning an attack on a religious figure near the Maronite Church on April 11. Security forces also seized firearms, grenades, ammunition, explosive materials, and detonators that were reportedly prepared for use in the planned assault.

Hezbollah denied any involvement, stating that it has no presence or operational ties within Syria. The arrests follow heightened security activity in the area as officials say they are working to prevent attacks aimed at destabilizing local security.

Joe Jajati, founder of the Syrian Mosaic Foundation, said the attempted attack was troubling but not unexpected given ongoing extremist rhetoric. He expressed gratitude to local residents who alerted authorities and emphasized the need for improved infrastructure, lighting, and security measures to strengthen safety and stability for all residents.
