IDF confirms Hezbollah behind deadly attack on UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces said its intelligence investigation determined that Hezbollah operatives were responsible for a deadly attack on United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon during the ongoing ceasefire. The incident took place in the Ghandouriyeh area as a United Nations team was clearing unexploded ordnance when gunmen opened fire, killing one peacekeeper and wounding three others, two of them seriously.

France identified the slain peacekeeper as Staff Sergeant Florian Montorio, stating he was killed by a direct gunshot. French President Emmanuel Macron said Hezbollah was behind what France described as an 'ambush.'

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon condemned the attack, attributing it to non-state actors, and announced it had launched its own investigation. Hezbollah denied involvement, urging caution against what it called rushed accusations.

The Israeli military accused Hezbollah of exploiting the ceasefire to conduct terrorist activity, saying the group is endangering civilians and international organizations operating in Lebanon.
