Iran's parliament speaker and lead negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that a complete ceasefire would only be meaningful if it is not undermined by what he described as a blockade of Iranian ports by the United States. He argued that ongoing restrictions make any truce ineffective.
In a message posted on a social media platform, Ghalibaf stated that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be impossible under what he called a 'flagrant breach of the ceasefire.' He suggested that continued pressure contradicts claims of de escalation.
Ghalibaf also said that the United States and Israel failed to achieve their objectives through military action and would not succeed through intimidation. He added that recognizing what he described as the rights of the Iranian people is the only viable path forward.
