A new Fox News poll finds that 56 percent of voters believe the Trump administration has not been competent in managing the federal government, while 43 percent say it has. Most independents and Democrats hold negative views, along with a notable share of Republicans, including those who do not identify with the president’s Make America Great Again movement. The results are similar to ratings given to previous administrations at comparable points in their terms.
President Trump receives negative approval ratings across most major issues, including immigration, foreign policy, the economy, inflation, government spending, China, and Iran. Border security is the only area where he earns majority approval. Overall, 42 percent of voters approve of his job performance, while 58 percent disapprove.
Several senior administration officials also receive net negative ratings, including Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and Secretary of Defense Hegseth. Within the Republican Party, support is significantly stronger among Make America Great Again supporters than among other Republicans.
Majorities of voters say the president lacks key leadership traits, including appropriate judgment, temperament, mental soundness, and empathy. Negative perceptions have increased in some areas since the 2024 election, particularly regarding temperament and mental soundness, while partisan divides remain stark across all measures.
