Fox News Poll: Economic gloom, Trump ratings signal tough GOP midterm path

A new Fox News survey finds widespread economic pessimism that could create a difficult path for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections. Nearly three-quarters of voters rate the economy negatively, and majorities say their personal finances are in poor shape and that conditions are worsening. Concerns about rising costs for groceries, gas, healthcare, and housing remain high, with gas prices showing a sharp increase in anxiety since last fall.

More voters say President Donald Trump's policies are hurting rather than helping the economy, and his overall job approval stands at 42 percent, with 58 percent disapproving. While Republican voters remain largely supportive, Democrats and independents express strong dissatisfaction. On the generic congressional ballot, Democrats hold a narrow advantage, and their voters currently report slightly higher motivation to turn out.

When asked which party handles issues better, Republicans lead on border security, crime, immigration, and national security, while Democrats are favored on healthcare, climate change, abortion, inflation, and foreign policy. Voters from all political backgrounds say both parties are focused on the wrong issues, expressing fatigue with cultural and identity debates. The findings suggest a competitive but challenging environment for Republicans as economic concerns dominate the national mood.
