The cabinet unanimously approved the appointment of former ambassador to the United Kingdom Tzipi Hotovely as head of the National Public Diplomacy Directorate in the Prime Minister's Office, filling a role that had been vacant for about two years. Doron Cohen was also approved as Civil Service Commissioner, with both officials set to begin their roles on May 5.
The Prime Minister's Office said Hotovely had worked extensively to promote Israel's image internationally and defend the country in global media during wartime. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the appointments and also confirmed the selection of Col. Nati Cohen to lead the National Digital Agency.
Hotovely, a member of the Likud party and former deputy foreign minister, previously faced criticism for remarks about American Jews, for which she later apologized. Meanwhile, Doron Cohen's appointment drew some opposition, including concerns over gender representation in senior roles and his perceived political affiliations. As Civil Service Commissioner, Cohen will oversee senior appointments, promotions and disciplinary matters across the public sector.
