Israeli air strikes in Lebanon have killed at least 14 people amid continued tensions despite an ongoing ceasefire between the two countries. The Israeli military also reported that a 19-year-old soldier was killed and six others were injured in a drone attack launched by Hezbollah inside Lebanon.
Hezbollah fired three drones toward Israel, which were intercepted by the Israeli air force before crossing the border. The violence comes even as a fragile ceasefire, first agreed on 16 April and recently extended, remains in place. Under the terms of the agreement, Israel maintains the right to act in self-defence against imminent or ongoing threats.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces are acting with force in Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of undermining the truce. Both sides have continued to report and exchange strikes since the ceasefire began, each accusing the other of violating the agreement. On Saturday, Israel ordered intensified attacks on Hezbollah targets, with additional strikes in southern Lebanon killing at least six people.
