The United States Defence Department has announced that 5,000 military personnel stationed in Germany will leave their bases within the next six to twelve months. The move follows tensions between President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the war with Iran, marking a significant shift in the American military presence in Europe.

President Trump has also said he plans to increase tariffs on vehicles imported from Europe, adding to transatlantic strains. Meanwhile, Cuba has condemned new sanctions from Washington, calling them 'collective punishment'.

In Gaza, aid groups warn that rats, fleas and other pests are spreading disease among displaced Palestinians. Other stories include the recovery of a lost Oscar statuette by airline staff, the identification of a previously unknown sketch of Anne Boleyn using new technology, and the winner of the Flatpack World Championships.
