At least two synagogues and several homes in Queens were defaced with antisemitic graffiti overnight, including swastikas and the phrase 'Heil Hitler.' One synagogue, the Rego Park Jewish Center, was targeted before dawn, and a plaque honoring victims of Kristallnacht was also vandalized. Another synagogue on 108th Street and multiple nearby residences were similarly marked.
Community leaders said one of the affected buildings houses a pre-kindergarten program, where children and families were confronted with the hateful symbols. The New York Police Department is investigating multiple sites and reviewing surveillance footage, with reports indicating that several suspects are being sought.
Local and national officials strongly condemned the vandalism, calling it a deliberate act of antisemitic hatred intended to instill fear. Jewish community organizations expressed deep concern and urged swift action to ensure the safety and confidence of congregants and residents, while elected leaders reiterated that hate has no place in the city.
