IDF to extend time to reach shelter in 49 northern Israel communities

The Israel Defense Forces announced that starting Thursday, residents in 49 northern communities will receive more time to reach shelter after a siren sounds. In 46 communities, the response time will increase from 30 to 45 seconds, while three communities will have a full minute to take cover.

According to the head of the Home Front Command, the decision follows accumulated operational experience and is part of a measured and responsible process. The extended warning time is intended to improve emergency preparedness, enhance security, and better protect civilian lives.

The change comes amid continued tensions along the northern border. In recent weeks, sirens were triggered after a drone launched from Lebanon was intercepted before entering Israeli territory, an incident the military described as a violation of the ongoing ceasefire. Additional alerts have sounded as Hezbollah continues to challenge the truce while targeting Israeli forces.
