An Israel Police officer has been promoted to commander after National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir reversed his opposition following a legal challenge. Police Commissioner Danny Levy approved the promotion, praising Ruti Hauslich for her capabilities and describing her as a worthy and principled officer.
Hauslich’s advancement had been delayed since last summer after Ben Gvir refused to sign off, claiming she misled a parliamentary committee during testimony on investigations related to incitement. A Jerusalem District Court judge urged the minister to reconsider during a hearing on her petition, after her lawyer argued she had properly represented the position of her division.
The case is part of broader tensions between the minister and senior police officials. In a separate ruling, the court previously ordered the minister to approve another senior officer’s promotion, citing concerns of improper considerations. The High Court of Justice has also called on government leaders to reach an agreement limiting undue political influence over police work.
