Trump ally Nigel Farage deals major blow to Starmer in local UK elections as resignation calls mount

Nigel Farage’s Reform United Kingdom party made sweeping gains in local elections across England, dealing a severe blow to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the ruling Labour Party. With more than half of councils declared, Labour had lost nearly 500 seats, prompting several Labour Members of Parliament to call for Starmer to set a timeline for his resignation. Starmer accepted responsibility for the losses but said he would not step down immediately.

Reform United Kingdom gained roughly 650 seats and took control of councils including Havering, capitalizing on voter frustration in traditionally Labour-supporting areas known as the Red Wall. Farage described the النتائج as a 'historic change in British politics,' as his party campaigned on stricter immigration policies, tax cuts, and rolling back environmental measures.

Labour also lost ground to the Green Party and pro-Palestinian independent candidates, particularly in urban areas and districts with large Muslim populations. Meanwhile, the Conservative Party suffered significant losses of its own, signaling a broader shift away from the United Kingdom’s long-dominant two-party system.
