The fourteenth Days of Jewish Music festival, titled 'Melodies of Hope', will take place May 12 to 15 at Bar-Ilan University and additional venues in Ramat Gan, offering fourteen concerts alongside lectures and workshops. Founded and directed by organist Yuval Rabin, the festival explores the vast diversity of Jewish music, far beyond familiar klezmer or cantorial traditions, embracing styles from Persia, the Balkans, Tunisia, Turkey, Yemen, and the Ladino world.
Rabin says this year’s theme reflects a desire to connect audiences with both joy and sorrow through music, especially in challenging times. The program blends liturgical works, biblical texts, Renaissance and Baroque compositions, and contemporary interpretations, while encouraging openness to unfamiliar genres and cultural traditions.
Highlights include a tribute marking ten years since the death of composer and ethnomusicologist Andre Hajdu, performances and talks on Israeli song and Diaspora influences, and concerts featuring Ladino, Tunisian, and Yemenite traditions. With affordable ticket prices and several free events, the festival aims to draw returning and new audiences alike into a broad, inclusive celebration of Jewish musical expression.
