Toronto Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man accused of knocking over a menorah outside the Yorkville Jewish Centre on April 10. The suspect, described as being in his thirties, allegedly pushed down the menorah while walking past the building.
Rabbi Meir Dubrawsky said the menorah had been intentionally left standing after Chanukah as a symbol of Jewish pride and visibility. He acknowledged concerns about potential incidents but emphasized that the community would not be intimidated.
Days after the vandalism, a woman passing by worked with another person to lift the menorah back into place. Dubrawsky said the act demonstrated that darkness does not prevail and that the community would respond by building an even larger menorah.
